show, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, shot to the top
of the TV ratings and stayed there for several years.
Part of the appeal was in Godfrey's repertory company
of singers, all of them good clean kids who had been
lifted out of obscurity by Godfrey (he never hired an
established performer as a regualr). But mostly it was
"the old redhead" himself that the viewers adored.
The show itself was a variety hour built
around Godfrey and his "Friends."
