Ocean Grove, California, the residence of the Simms
family: Paul, a quiet, respectable attorney with the
firm of McNish and Simms; his wife, Martha, and their
two daughters, Barbara, age 21; and Sally, age 14.
Completing her studies at college, Barbara Simms and
Howie Dickerson, a penniless former graduate studying
for his Masters degree in oceanogrophy, elope, return
to Ocean Grove from Las Vegas, and establish house-
keeping in the Simms home, where Howie encounters
Paul's objections about Barbara's welfare and Howie's
inability to support her. Stories depict the bickering
relationship between Paul and the eccentric Howie,
and Paul's desparate attempts to find Howie (a genius
with an I.Q. of 185 who can't function properly in
the business world) suitable employment.
The comedy team of Stiller and Meara were
occasionally seen as Howie's parents.
Early on January 11, 1982 Paul's body is found by
friends after he fails to appear at a dinner party.
The 55 year old actor had died of a massive heart
attack and as a result of natural causes.
